[Pattern] Monument Valley Cross-Stitch

In this post I'll provide any info I can in case you want to make your own version of my Monument Valley piece. Here we go !

Foreword.

Unfortunately I don't have a pattern to give you. I created one and used it to mark my progress, but I can't remember the tool I used. I could give the pattern to you but I changed some significant parts later on, so even my pattern is out of date with the final image.
The floss I used is not DMC, but uses the same numbering. Usually the colors are pretty close to the DMC ones, but be aware that color combinations that worked well for me might not work as good for you.I also didn't take note of the colors I used, but I'll give you below all that I remember. I think I've got everything except for the colors of the water and tower tops.

This was my first custom cross-stitch project so of course I've learned a lot since then and wouldn't make the same mistakes anymore. Rest assured that my next patterns won't have the same problems!
If you create a good pattern which references the proper colors, please send it to me, i'd be very happy to share it to everyone. <3

Original Pixel Art. Made by me, please give credit.

Here's the pixel art I used for the pattern. It has 31 colors. You can download the picture and use it to create a pattern with your favorite tool.
If you don't have one, you can use pixel-stitch.com to create one easily. Make sure that you input 114 for the width so that the picture is not resized. Then click "Advanced options", chose RgbQuant as the color reduction algorithm and CIE94 for the distance calculation. This should give you a pattern with 30 colors. It's only missing one color in the waterfall. Unfortunately the symbols in the pattern are not very readable. It'd really be best for you if you're able to make your own with better software.

Fabric and floss.

I used 14-count Aïda by DMC, in the "ECRU" color. The end result may be better with a light blue frabric like in the original picture, but you may need to change some of my color choices.
I used to strand of floss.
The end result measures 20.5cm by 32cm (~8 inches by 10 1/2 inches). This is not the fabric size, but the size of the stitched area, please leave significant margins in when you cut your fabric!

Colors.

Main 3 wall colors: I used almost 1 full skein of each of these. I don't have any of the 803 left, so if you want to be safe, you may need 2 skeins.
803      (shadows: 3768)
3782    (shadows: 3828)
3859    (shadows: 3722)

For all the other colors, 1 skein is more than enough to finish everything

Darker walls & stairs:
645, 3021 and 3862

Building details:
Lighter wall section + top part of holes : 927
Doors, windows and other openings: 3802
Ladder and wall decor: maybe 645

Plants:
Grass:            166     (shadows: blend of 166 and maybe 3347 or 988) (I used ~3/4 of this skein)
Small herbs:  987   (shadows: 986)
Purple plants:  902
Trees and big plants: 3345

Flags and main character:
Lighter color: 972
Darker color: 3853
Middle color: Blend of 1 strand 972 and 1 strand 3853
Black (310) & White (Blanc)

Ravens:
Outline and eyes: Black (310) and White (Blanc)
Fill: 3021

Towers:
I don't know at all. Top color and middle left color is 166, but aside from that I used what I had and tried to make the colors change smoothly. Blends can be useful to get better results in this section.

Waterfall:
Water: I really struggled to find something I was satisfied with. I don't know what I picked in the end.
Splashes: D5200 with 3 strands instead of 2 so they pop out more.

I think that's it. Please let me know if I forgot something or if you don't understand some of the colors I'm referring to.

The end

And I think that's it. Please, if you make a proper pattern based on these instructions let me know, and if you stitch the project, let me know as well, either here or on my social media.
It'd be delighted to see it!

Happy stitching!
